RainRadar AU (formally BOMRadar)

This iPhone Application is designed to let you look at the radar map for a particular area to see if there is incoming rain. The application animates the last 4 images from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and displays them in a loop.

Features:

  • Animated radar images (last 4 radar images from BOM site).
  • Radar ranges 64km, 128km, 256km, 512km area selectable where available.
  • Zoom into the radar to get a closer look at towns
  • Current weather observations who temperature, wind direction/speed and rainfall since 9am.
  • Favorites list to keep track of your regular radars.
  • Locate Me option to find the radars closest to you.
  • Wind Doppler for radars that support it.
  • Radar Images have local time not UTC time.

V 1.1.0

This release includes many of the requested features, as well as some fixes to common problems. Here is the complete list of changes:

Changes:

  • Canberra is now in the ACT
  • Radar images now show local time and not UTC time.
  • Range bar now removes options that are not available on the current radar.
  • Change to the back-end network code should hopefully load things faster.
  • New favorites page, add radars using the "Fav" button on the radar, modify the favorites list using the edit button.
  • New Locate Me option will show what radars are in range of your current location.
  • Current weather observations are now shown on the radar, (current temp, wind speed/direction and Rain fall since 9am).
  • The map can now be zoomed in to get a better look at towns/observations.
  • New Settings page to set some options with the radar.

Fixes:

  • Fixed spelling of Buckland Park.
  • Fixed the K on 64km to be lower case like the rest
  • ncreased the timeout value on network transfers (this should fix those people getting timeouts on optus)
  • Fixed a bug that if the application crashed, it would take you back to the same radar, and crash again
  • Fixed a bug where if you selected a range that errored, it would remember that range

  • Changed to a tree structure for nagivation, instead of one long list. It is now State -> City
  • Added Wind Doppler option for those radars that have the feature (currently 6 Radars)
